Calling All Crew

That’s right: it’s a call for crew.

Further is currently in Annapolis, Maryland. And the game plan is to take her home to Massachusetts. I’ve secured a mooring on the Merrimack River in Newburyport for her for the summer. But first I’ve got to get her there, and for that I’ll need help. That’s where you come in.

Who wants to join Further for a few-day journey to New England in mid- to late-May or even early June? Enthusiasm is more important that ability or experience, though to be honest: for this first semi-big trip I think experience would be helpful.

It would be about a four-day trip going hell’s bells for home. But depending on who joins up and what their interests/restraints are, we can certainly make it a more interesting journey.

From Annapolis, we’ll go up Chesapeake Bay, across the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal and then down Delaware Bay. Around Cape May, N.J., and then it’s decision time (though we’ll decide BEFORE we shove off):
a.) Straight northeast to Buzzard’s Bay, through the Cape Cod Canal, across Massachusetts Bay and around Cape Ann to the mouth of the Merrimack
b.) Straight northeast to Block Island (or Newport or…?), hang out there for a day or two and then home
c.) Hook it north to New York City, through Hell Gate and out Long Island Sound, maybe with stops in NYC and along the way
Weather will, of course, have a major impact on the trip, but beyond that it’s up to us.

If you’re interested, drop me an email or leave a comment on this post (it’s there even though it won’t appear until I approve it; if you don’t want me to approve it and make it visible, say so in your comment). For those friends who I know are experienced sailors: I’ll be sending you an email shortly to see if you’re available and interested.

And then, just to confuse things even more (who…me?!): I’m also contemplating staying in Annapolis for the summer. Thing is: I REALLY miss the ocean.

Anyway, gimme a shout. Hope to hear from you.
